Shamrock 'n’ Run 5k

February 16, 2008

Each year our chapter holds the Shamrock ‘n’ Run 5K Race and Pump-Up Pasta Dinner for the prevention of child abuse. 2008 marked our 15th annual race, and it was Beta Chi’s ever! We are proud to announce that we raised more than $42,000!

Twenty percent of our proceeds went to national Prevent Child Abuse America, and 80 percent went to the Center for Child and Family Health in Durham, NC. The Center for Child and Family Health provides treatment and prevention services for local children who are experiencing trauma. It also sponsors home visits, support groups and research projects for child abuse victims. Since Kappa Delta’s foundation in 1897, it has given almost $8 million to the prevention of child abuse.

Seniors Anna Brown, McKinley Mann, Jessica Johnson and Kathryn Shaia began planning the event in the fall of 2007, and their hard work paid off. Kappa Delta was proud to win the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life’s Chapter Excellence Award for Outstanding Philanthropic Activity for our 2008 Shamrock ‘n’ Run 5K!
