In March of 2009, my Wife, myself,  and some friends and family members  (Mr.& Mrs. Femi and Modu Thompson, Mr. &Mrs. Ayodele and Daphne Tom-Johnson )  engaged in a conversation about the social disconnect of the Creoles in the Triad,  and in general.

The observation was that we only meet at Weddings and Funerals and as such there was a need for creating an organization to help promote and preserve the Creole Culture and Heritage. All Six of us decided to go on a campaign to sell our ideas and recruit members. We were able to recruit about Twenty-Five members on our first go around in the Triad Area.

Our very first meeting was held at my Home on Easter Sunday, April 2009, at which, we had about Thirty people in attendance. It was agreed to name the group the “KRIO DESCENDANTS’ ASSOCIATION IN THE TRIAD” (Greensboro, High Point, and Winston Salem). The following were the original members:

At this meeting, the following were elected as executive members of the Association:

  • President:  Elnathan Johnson

  • Vice-President: Femi Thompson

  • Secretary: Blanche King

  • Asst-Secretary: Morehnikeh Davis

  • Treasurer: Rodney Coker

  • Asst-Treasurer: Omoh Hairston

In 2010, the Charlotte, Raleigh, and Durham areas were added to the organization, and the name was changed to the KRIO DESCENDANTS’ ASSOCIATION IN North Carolina.  In 2011, the group was invited to join the Krio Descendants’ Union (KDU) GLOBAL, and the group became the KDU-NC.
