President's Message

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT MRS. NEWTONA TURNER

It is a privilege and honor to be the current President of the Krio Descendants Union of North Carolina (KDUNC), a chapter of the Krio Descendants Global Union. KDUNC is a family of Krios that live and work together throughout the vast expanse of North Carolina. The chapter is sub-divided into three regions: Charlotte, Piedmont Triad (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point) and the Raleigh-Durham areas.

The organization meets in one location or on-line, every third Saturday of the month to discuss various ways of helping our Sierra Leonean and American communities as we deem fit. KDUNC has always been an organization that our communities can rely on. The charity promotes the krio culture and heritage especially during the social aspects of our meetings.

The organization consist of a diverse group of all ages and professions that often retires into a class of advisory patriarchs and matriarchs who continue to play an active part in the organization. Every member of this organization considers themselves to be proud Krios and do everything to maintain our heritage and culture.

I want to thank our members for their continued support, enthusiasm, and participation. I would like to give a special shout-out of appreciation to the various committees that keep our team working smoothly.

You have made my work so much easier. I am proud of the successes of our Chapter particularly in providing more opportunities for meaningful engagement of our members and our sponsors, developing interactive mediums such as this one and increasing our outreach opportunities.

I also want to thank our patrons and sponsors because without their continued support our achievements would not have been possible. Our KDUNC family looks forward to your continued dedication and support to our excellence.

For our current and perspective members, I want to assure you that as we take on the mantle of increasing our membership with concentration on our youth, we will remain focused on being a benefit to our Chapter and Krios at large.

I want to encourage our visitors to this website to go through and experience our traditions as best as we can portray them. Enjoy the richness of our culture and if you are a Krio, please contact us to become a member of this progressive organization.
I look forward to a productive and successful presidency and invite each of you to become more involved in moving our great chapter KDUNC forward.

Respectfully,
Newtona Turner
President
